We Are Open – Safety is Our Top Priority!
We’ve reopened in accordance with CDC, O.S.H.A., and State Dental Board guidelines to responsibly resume seeing our patients for regular dental appointments and treatment. We want to assure you of the measures we take to maintain a clean and safe environment so you can continue to receive needed dental care without fear or concern.
Whiter teeth are what most people told the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry they’d love to improve about their smiles — and no wonder. Yellow is a fine color for daffodils, amber, and other natural delights — but not our teeth.
Our office in West Springfield has two convenient ways to remove dullness, discoloration, and yellowing from your teeth and give you the smile you’ve always wanted. You can relax in our office while your teeth become an average of five shades whiter, with no residual sensitivity in your teeth, or use a similar system in the privacy and comfort of your home.
Why Whiten Your Teeth?
Although brushing and flossing daily help keep your teeth and gums healthy, that doesn’t unfortunately stop your teeth from changing color over time. For one thing, the outer enamel becomes thinner as we age, so the yellow inner dentin becomes more noticeable. Tooth decay and an injury to a tooth also tend to turn teeth yellow.
But even without decay, tooth enamel is porous, so it’s vulnerable to staining and discoloration from a variety of substances, such as:
- Tobacco products. Nicotine and tar are top tooth-staining culprits.
- Foods and drinks with intense color pigmentation, such as tea, red wines, colas, and coffee.
- Certain medication and medical treatments, including chemotherapy, radiation, high blood pressure medicine, antipsychotics, antihistamines, and some antibiotics.
If you’re expecting restorative dental work such as dentures, veneers, crowns, or bridges, whitening your teeth beforehand is also a good way to give these items a foundation where they can blend in seamlessly. These devices don’t respond to whitening treatments, so obtaining them afterward tends to make them more obvious.
GLO® Science Professional: Dramatic Results with No Sensitivity
Our office in West Springfield is proud to provide our patients with GLO Science Professional, a revolutionary process that can make your teeth an average of five shades whiter after only 32 minutes! GLO Science Professional uses gentle heat and light to activate and accelerate the whitening process, but its particular ingredients and patented mouthpiece design virtually eliminates troublesome sensitivity afterward.
Based on your teeth’s current shade and sensitivity and your desired results, we’ll help you choose between the 24 percent hydrogen peroxide whitening gel and the 30 percent hydrogen peroxide whitening gel. Once we’ve applied the gel, simply bite down on the mouthpiece and relax while GLO Science Professional does the work.
GLO®: Whiten Teeth at Home or On the Go
If you’d prefer to whiten your teeth at home and on your own schedule, our office in West Springfield also carries the patented GLO teeth whitening system, which uses a similar combination of gentle heat and light with whitening gel.
To get started, brush and floss your teeth, then protect your lips with GLO’s special enclosed balm. You’ll apply the premixed 9 percent hydrogen peroxide gel from a vial in your kit, then bite down on the included mouthpiece. The mouthpiece is attached to a remote that focuses light and heat to accelerate and activate the gel. Because the remote is conveniently hooked to a lanyard, you can move freely while GLO does its job.
To avoid causing tooth sensitivity, GLO is designed to work best in four consecutive daily treatments of eight minutes each. You can use the kit safely for five to ten days to see dramatic results.
